Stonehenge complex was built in 1984, together with the neighbouring Stoneridge complex, where a border wall is shared on the right-hand side of the complex - units 1 to 5. There are 24 Units in Stonehenge Complex.
Stoneridge has a separate entrance on Whelan Close, with a back gate opening into the servitude next to the entrance gate of Stonehenge, whilst the main entrance for Stonehenge is located in Boyle close.
It is important to note that Boyle Close is a public road and provides front gate access to the neighbouring complex, Ivory Towers, together with a back entrance for 5 garages of Laura Lane, whose front access is in 1st Avenue. Additionally, a free-standing house is located on the corner of Boyle Close and Stiglingh Road, with the main entrance located in Stiglingh Road and a border fence extending into Boyle Close.
The top of Stonehenge borders Rivonia Road, units 5, 6, 12, 13 and the common use area of the swimming pool. As the complex is built on a slope, the Rivonia Road side of the wall appears to be around two meters lower in height than the visible wall from Rivonia Road.
The left side of the complex shares a border with a property formerly used for a restaurant, now abandoned, but zoned for a Boutique Hotel, Retirement village or storage facilities. The back boundary wall of this property is also in Boyle Close.
Stonehenge Complex is located in Edenburg, Sandton and forms part of Sector 1 Sandton.
Sector 1 is located in Region E of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality.

The SANDTON POLICE PRECINCT covers 84 square kilometres.

NORTH – Leeukop Prison
EAST – N3 east side of Buccleuch
WEST – William Nicol Highway.
A substation for the SAPS Sandton Precinct is located in Gallo Manor. This was a project conceived and funded by the community in the early '90's. A wonderful example of what can be achieved when communities work together.
Rivonia Road is the main arterial road, linking all the sectors of Sandton 1-4, whilst the main thoroughfares of Kelvin Drive and Bowling Avenue are the main link roads for the Sector 1 suburbs.
A Brief History Of The Area
Rivonia is located at the heart of Sector 1. Rivonia is one of the most affluent residential and business suburbs of Johannesburg, and regarded as the hub of start-up and established I.T. companies. The main retail thoroughfare in the area, Rivonia Boulevard, is the location of several shopping complexes as well as many other specialty shops and restaurants. The area known as Rivonia includes the original township of Edenburg, Edenburg Extension 1, and 19 smaller extensions designated 'Rivonia Extension ...', numbered from 0 to 25. There is no designated township (in the legal sense) called Rivonia. The post code for Rivonia is 2128.
Over the years Rivonia has been home to many well known, even internationally famous restaurants - Browns, News Cafe, Sheiks Palace, the original Codfather, Rattlesnakes to name but a few, and the area offers a number of hotels, Lodges, Boutique Hotels and specialty B&B's - all popular with local business travellers.
Edenburg is where the beautiful and tranquil Sandspruit riverside walking and picnic area can be found - a favourite place to relax for residents and visitors to the area. The river is an integral part on Sector 1 and another wonderful community initiative, City-Zen, helps to keep the river and surrounding areas clean, as well as assisting with security in the area.
Rivonia lies between the Braamfontein Spruit and the Sandspruit, and was the location of Liliesleaf Farm (26°2′36″S 28°3′15″E), where in 1963 many of the accused in the Rivonia Treason Trial were arrested.
The earliest public transport into Johannesburg was by donkey cart, later by bus.
A Carmelite Convent, accommodating Discalced Carmelite Nuns, sat in the centre of the village until displaced by commercial pressures. (They moved to Benoni.) In a commemorative move, the large shopping centre first built on the site was named The Cloisters. https://carmelbenoni.co.za/history.html
The earlier village lay on the direct path of access along Rivonia Road to the south to the new 'concrete' highway, with a nasty dogleg in the road at 12th Avenue. When it was decided to redesign and improve Rivonia Road through to the highway, the bowling greens and tennis courts of the Rivonia Recreation Club were in the way, and the Club relocated to a handsome new site in Achter Road in Paulshof, leaving only the Rivonia Hall and Library on the original site. Rivonia Produce, a landmark and long established family business, supplying inter alia hay to the many local horse owners, was also forced to move from the dogleg on 12th Avenue to a new building on 11th Avenue. It has since been swallowed into a national hardware chain and disappeared.
The area known as the Cloisters became the home in the late '90's to the first and most popular iconic News Cafe in Johannesburg, who occupied those premises until around 2010, when they then moved across the road to the Boulevard Centre.
Woodmead and the Country Club Johannesburg (CCJ) are situated on a farm that belonged to Lady Cullinan. Some of the oak trees that lined the driveway can still be seen on the Country Club Johannesburg / Woodmead golf course.
Khyber Rock, south of Plymouth Street and east of Lincoln Street, belonged to Mr. Bernard Elkin who lived in Killarney.
This area east of Lincoln Street consisted of small-holdings that included the Blue Hills Stables. It now accommodates The Bernardino, Khyber Royale, Khyber Fountains, Khyber Rock Estates N/S/E/W, Annapurna and The Paddocks. Further east the development is now mainly devoted to business.
Woodmead itself was a blue gum forest inhabited by extensive wild life including many varieties of snakes. Earlier residents will recall interesting and varied encounters with these reptiles, which encounters extended into 2008, with minimal reporting since then.
Woodmead was declared a township in 1966 and the first one-acre residential stands went on the market in that year when there was still access to Witkoppen Road from the north of Lincoln Street as the N1 Highway had not yet been built.
Riley road was originally opened in 1976 but tarred much later.
The internal roads were only finally tarred in the early 80's and at the time the then Sandton Council’s policy was to retain the rural character of these outlying areas, hence originally there were no street lights.
The final street lights were only installed in the Woodmead area in early 2005.
When the Woodmead Township was proclaimed in 1966, ERF106 was zoned for Educational purposes.
Woodmead is an area characterized by high quality homes on large stands with well-treed and landscaped gardens.
Khyber Rock likewise is an area of high quality homes albeit on smaller stands. It was planned and zoned for a variety of densities that have changed little since1966.
Woodlands is home to the Woodlands Business park, a beautiful 43 hectare site, providing business premises, shopping and entertainment for the residents.
Woodmead is well known for the Woodmead Retail Park - which includes a Pick n Pay hypermarket, and the Value Centre Shopping area, including a large Makro.
The headquarters of Eskom, Megawatt Park, are located in Sunninghill, a vibrant fairly new suburb well situated for easy access to all motorways and shopping centres.
The suburbs of Sector 1 are however, mostly residential and many of the large stands from previous years with a single dwelling, have been converted to large complexes incorporating beautiful gardens, ensuring the area remains green and lush.
